Brain & Nervous System (Nerve Anatomy & Brain Illustrations)

The Brain and Nervous System (Nerve Anatomy and Brain Illustrations) portfolio includes illustrations about the brain, spinal cord, and nerves throughout the body, as well as conditions affecting the nerves.

The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves that work together to coordinate the body's actions and collect sensory information by transmitting signals to and from the brain. It is divided into the central nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, which consists of every other nerve in the body. There are many associated conditions involving the nervous system. Many of the illustrations seen below focus on the anatomy of the pudendal nerve and its surrounding structures. During my graduate school thesis, I investigated pudendal nerve entrapment and created a series of pen and ink illustrations based on cadaveric dissections that demonstrated the various variations that can be observed in the pudendal nerve. Additionally, I developed an animation to highlight some of the most important variations. The purpose of my work was to educate physicians about pudendal nerve variation, as pudendal nerve entrapment is frequently misdiagnosed.
